Transformers |
Hitachi was established in 1910, and shipped its first power transformer the same year, a small 5kVA single phase model. Since then, Hitachi has developed the technology to meet the increased demand for electric power, regularly manufacturing and delivering units with power capacity up to 3,000MVA and voltage up to 1,000 kV, all over the world.
Hitachi has taken the challenge to meet not only capacity and voltage needs, but the wider needs of a changing society as well.
Hitachi power transformers feature higher quality and reliability, lower loss and operating noise, shorter delivery time, lighter transport weight and smaller installation area than ever before. Additionally, we are developing transformers that will meet the needs of new systems such as the HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) power system.
Hitachi is also devoting a great deal of attention to various environmental issues, developing low-noise transformers that operate harmoniously with the natural environment. For our efforts, Hitachi was awarded the coveted ISO 14001 certificate.
Today, confident in our role as one of the world's leading manufacturers of power transformers, Hitachi takes great pains to manufacture products that will consistently satisfy the changing needs of our customers and society all over the world.

Control and Protection |
A consistent power supply is crucial to the smooth operation of an electrical power plant. As even a moment's interruption in this supply can be harmful, Hitachi Kokubu power protection and control systems ensure complete power continuity. With advanced digital, algorithmic, engineering, and optical communication technologies, these systems meet the requirements of even the most complex, large-scale electrical power plants.
To ensure stable, high quality power, plant systems connections must be flawless. We therefore develop and manufacture stationary reactive power compensators, frequency converters, and DC power delivery systems that guarantee optimum connections. Our electrical systems, moreover, feature highly advanced digital protection and control technologies.

GCB |
With Conventional high voltage synchronization systems the generator is directly connected to the main transformer. All of its operations including output synchronization are then controlled by the high voltage side circuit breaker. Furthermore, to start from the high voltage transmission network specifically, the special starting transformer which is controlled by the high voltage circuit breaker.
Low voltage synchronization systems greatly simplify upon this concept. For example, switching equipment, installed between the generator and main transformer, control synchronization operations. This type of system offers the following primary advantage:
- Eliminates the starting transformer and its associated circuit breakers.
- Simplifies operation, as it eliminates the need for transferring auxiliary power supplies during start-ups.
- Isolates the generator if a unit trips or a fault occurs.

GIS |
Gas Circuit Breakers (GCB) and Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) are two technologies which exploit sulfur hexafluride's (SF Gas) superior insulating and arcquenching properties. Although both have been in practical use for over 30 years now, GIS has become the prevailing standard due to the following outstanding characteristics:
- LOW AREA REQUIREMENTS. GIS take only a fraction (5-10%) of the space required by conventional open-air types.
- ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY. GIS is suitable for installation almost anywhere: in or out of doors, even underground; near the sea, in the mountainous areas, in regions with heavy snowfall, etc.
- HIGH MARGIN OF SAFETY. The high-voltage conductors are securely enclosed in grounded metal.
- HIGH RELIABILITY AND LONG MAINTENANCE INTERVALS. The chemically inert SF6 enveloping the conductors and insulators preserves them for long term and no maintenance required.

Metal Clad Switchgear |
Since their development in 1964, Hitachi Metal-Clad Switchgear, using vacuum circuit breaker technology, have been supplied to and are in use in electric power facilities the world over. Providing rapid and safe interruption even of heavy fault currents, these switchgears have earned their reputation for reliability, safety and easy maintenance. They continue to prove themselves in applications throughout the world, satisfying users who demand the highest standards of performance.
